There are many opportunities to develop and apply your expertise. Options include advising clients on how best to invest plan assets; acting as a client’s outsourced chief investment officer (discretionary consulting), providing corporate governance services, such as proxy voting; and researching asset classes and investment managers.
Interns also participate in a speaker series to learn about various aspects of our business.
Your clients could be corporations, state or local governments, colleges/universities, professional services firms, hospitals/healthcare systems and/or professional sports organizations.
Or, you might work on investing the assets of employee benefit plans sponsored by state retirement systems and/or multiemployer plans that are jointly sponsored by unions and contributing employers.
You’ll help create custom solutions to each client’s challenges because we don’t provide one-size-fits-all products.
You’ll work closely with your colleagues, sharing your unique perspectives on how to provide the best possible advice for each client. You’ll find that colleagues, even at senior levels of the company, work with “open doors,” meaning they’re always ready to answer any questions you may have.
Beyond client work, you’ll be able to meet other colleagues through our companywide, weekly Candid Conversations and at regular events sponsored by our employee-created and employee-run business resource groups. By participating in our Mentorship Program as a mentor or mentee, you’ll have an opportunity to form a deeper relationship with a colleague who works in a different business unit.
Learn about living our values and community involvement.
We understand that our colleagues have personal demands on their time that are equally important as their work responsibilities.
That’s one reason we’re a flexible, hybrid organization. We also offer flexible work arrangements.
Those work structures can help you achieve work/life balance.
We prioritize our colleagues’ physical and financial well-being.
You’ll have access to excellent employee benefits to support your well-being, including a benefit that is increasingly rare among private sector employers: a pension plan.
We also offer paid sabbaticals because we recognize the restorative value of extended time away from work. Sabbaticals are available after only five years of service.
You may use the time for a research project, to pursue a professional development opportunity, to take the trip of a lifetime or to reconnect with family and friends — whatever is most meaningful for you. If you use the time for eligible study, we’ll help with your expenses.
Learning is one of our values. Consequently, we’re committed to continuous learning.
Numerous ongoing training opportunities are open to all employees, including through our extremely popular Mentorship Program. Since the program began in 2019, more than 1,000 employees from Segal Marco Advisors and Segal have participated, and 98 percent say they would recommend the program to colleagues. In 2025, nearly 25 percent of colleagues are participating in the program as a mentor, a mentee or both.
NEXT, which stands for National Exposure and X[cross]-Training, is a professional development program created and run by employees that’s open to all non-officers and that encourages education, networking and cross-training with peers.
Our Professional Credentials Program provides support to study for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) professional designation.
You’ll have access to our level-based Career Navigator tool, which will allow you and your manager to plan for the next stage in your career through a series of structured Career Conversations.
We offer suggestions for self-directed training that’s appropriate for your current level in the organization, which can help you get to the next level.
If you’re interested in changing career paths, you can do that here!
